New Year’s Witchcraftery

Atlas Obscura is one of my VERY favorite things.

They are a great source for all the weird and wonderful what have yous that exist in the world.

Of course, I signed up for their daily emails. You wouldn’t believe all the good stuff I learn and forget.

Today, New Year’s Eve 2021, Atlas Obscura sent a most wonderful article that is probably going to be tradition from here on out.

I gift you with NEW YEAR’S LEMON PIGS.

Yes.

Lemon. Pigs.

At first, I didn’t think anything of it other than it is quirky, fun, and crafty. Three of my favorite adjectives.

I browsed the article. Shared it on FB, and decided Trevor and I were going to make them.

As did his mom and sister, because they clearly have great taste.

Before going into the grocery store for lemons, cloves, and toothpicks, I checked FB. There, I saw the pigs Trevor’s family made.

There were a few adjustments (making them very personalized and beautiful pigs), to which his sister made a remark about sprinkling her pig with clove in case “it was a key ingredient for luck”.

…which made me question IF THESE INGREDIENTS WERE POTENTIALLY SOME SORT OF SPELL FOR THE NEW YEAR.

SURE ENOUGH, THE PIG IS A PERFECT NEW YEAR’S SPELL/MANIFESTATION/CRAFT/THE KIND OF ENERGY YOU WANT EVERY YEAR!

I loved the lemon pig when it was just a simple, silly pig, BUT AFTER LEARNING THEY ARE WITCHERY PIGS, I LOVE THEM EVEN MORE.

Lemons are for happiness. I can see that. They smell so good. Are vibrant, and lemonade.

Cloves are about protection/keeping gross energy at bay. It’s been a ride these past two years. Let’s hope that 2022 is much less drama filled than its ancestors- 2020 and 2021.

Pigs bring abundance. Yes, please.

Coins because when you’re wanting to manifest more money, that’s one of the ingredients you use. We already have abundance on the list; however, abundance doesn’t necessarily mean $$$.

Trevor’s pig has a nickel because he’s still looking for a job. I figured a nickel would boost the manifestation ante.

Oh. You also have the toothpick legs and aluminum foil curly tail. But those are for decorative purposes. Probably.

The final result is happiness, financial abundance, and better energy for the upcoming year IN THE SHAPE OF A LEMON PIG!

…your hands also smell great afterward.

Very happy with how our lemon pigs turned out AND it was a lot of fun- not just because I was able to do something witchy.

I’m thinking next year, we could pick a theme and make a whole herd of pigs. Give them little hats.

Trevor did mention we could have made jumping spiders…and he was right. Sigh. I can’t believe I didn’t think of it first.

But we’d have to use oranges.

Although, I don’t know the magical properties of oranges. Or jumping spiders, other than adorable, silly, and patient.

We have a year to figure it out. But it will probably be last minute like most of our holiday plans.

More posts to come.

I’m not sure how to summarize myself properly (I struggle with simply being human). But let’s give it a try! Spiritual witchy hippie who dreams of three day weekends and human rights for all. Lunch lady to the neighborhood birbs (white breasted nut hatches are the best!). Adore my jumping spiders. Oh, there are also 50 or so plants we share our home with. And some rogue lady bugs. It’s always interesting to see where they show up. Like on toilet paper. This is where I add a heavy dash of queer, neurodivergency, and vegetarianism. Am big on hugs- I give them most generously.
