Look, I know that moving into 2021 doesn’t automatically wipe our issues away. I mean, it would be great if that were possible; however, it currently isn’t an option. And let’s be honest- there are A LOT of important issues needing resolved.
I don’t need to gloss over how not wonderful 2020 was. You guys have all been here for it. But I want to talk about what HAS gone well:
2021 begins with COVID vaccines becoming available to more and more people who want them.
Stimulus checks are coming. No, I do not think it is enough aid for the people who are struggling right now; but it is something more than they currently have. I hope a better solution is found soon. Until then, for those of us who are lucky enough to have jobs, let’s help in anyway we can. Donate to food banks. Local charities assisting those who aren’t making ends meet. You see where I am going with this- we want to see change then it needs to start with us. Let’s be good humans.
This year has given me new friends that I’ve connected with on a pretty deep level. Thank you for being in my life! And thank you if you’ve been here for awhile. I love you, too!
2020 was the year I met Erlene. She helped bring joy during a rough and rocky year.
I have been fortunate enough to work from home since March. We still go into the office periodically, but I enjoy the extra free time I now have. My fuel budget is 1/3 of what it used to be. Plus I’m not racking up lots and lots of miles on my car at an insane pace. Best perk, though? I’m not spreading as many of my germs around because I am home 95% of the time.
Despite the mandatory physical distance, we have found creative ways to stay in touch and be with the people we love. And have found alternative ways to help keep things afloat while keeping people safe.
Oh! I started meds for my anxiety and depression in 2020. I feel SO MUCH BETTER! I’m sure I am also way more fun to be around.
I discovered all kinds of spiritual goodness, animals, and loving kindness on TikTok. Say what you will but that app brings me joy. And joy matters.
My friends have spoiled me with kind words and surprise gifts and their love. I want for nothing.
We (as in people who are not part of the black community) are FINALLY working to educate ourselves on systematic racism, how white supremacy is very much alive, becoming antiracist, and what we can do to stop oppression/racism. BECAUSE BLACK LIVES STILL MATTER!
There are probably plenty more great things that happened in 2020 but I felt it important to end with Black Lives Matter, while leaving you with this:
The take away from 2020 is to look out for each other- friends, family, or strangers. We need to be good to one another. Put our egos aside and listen. Truly listen. To do the work. To admit when we are wrong or don’t have the answers. To support. TO BE KIND.
How can we grow? How can we begin to make our world better so all beings are free from suffering?
Let’s start by choosing love over fear.
